I’m not one to watch television at all.  I do not own one and I have not actually sat and watched TV for almost 20 years now (though I have seen a few British shows on DVD in the past).  And I am usually very selective of the films I occasionally watch. But for the past few weeks I’ve been watching the 1976 BBC series, I, Claudius, based on the Robert Graves novel—with some astounding scriptwriting and acting.  With each episode my jaw drops lower… and lower.  This show may contain the best (and most terrifying) performance of John Hurt’s entire career—I just watched the episode last night where Caligula becomes emperor.  All the actors are brilliant and they truly bring their characters to life. Count me a fan!
